This incredible transformation was done in 3 stages-
The client had lived in this amazing duplex space for over 25 years and that gave her a lot of time to accumulate a lot of things.
First we mastered the clutter. She was timid and hesitant to give up much. But as things went and she saw space and light she became fearless- getting rid of everything- clothes, shoes, bags, jewelry,  things she didn't know why she was holding onto and tons of old paperwork she no longer needed. After she saw how much lighter she felt she agreed she could donate furniture- lots of it. She felt safe knowing that the 18 feet of cabinets that stand 8 feet high would  hold the all the things that were not clutter but needed items. She loves her books saw a long and tall bookcase was placed behind her sofa and extended a horizontal case over her 2 matching cabinets. They were both red and got a new life painted white- with the Tiffany blue inside them. Her antique black chinese liquor cabinet was painted white and now stands near her front door to hold mail and keys. We also removed the shoji screens covering the window and replaced them with light, airy gauze panels.
Second we decided that before we installed the cabinets we should brighten the room with new distressed white floors and paint both floors of the apartment. Painting the brick fireplace white was an instant change to the brightness of the room and we painted the 2 brown ceiling fans white which allowed them to to disappear in the room.
Our third step was after living in her new space for a few months she decided the final step to complete the transformation of her space was to get get rid of her sofa and replace it with an amazing sofa/lounge combo and a matching club chair and ottoman. Her beloved wing chair was covered in a pale suede cover bought online. The only other remaining piece of furniture was her desk armoire which was moved into a nook next to the fireplace.

The bedroom was also completely emptied and old furniture was sold. One large distressed grey TV cabinet with drawers and large cabinet spaces filled the wall where originally 3  pieces had been. The amazing queen sized bed- up from a double-has incredible storage under it's lift up frame. A matching horizontal cabinet was installed above her bed for even more stoarge. Again the ceiling fan fan was painted, the white washed floors were installed and the windows are shoji free with gauzy panels allowing the light to flood in. She kept the large armoire, tall cabinet which went from red to white with Tiffany blue interiors. The side table was also painted white with blue inside.

The client was so excited by this incredible transformation in her she decided to rip out her old stair and hallway  carpeting by herself and install the new off white stair carpet and runners! This is not something she ever thought she would do- but she was inspired and empowered.

The upstairs hallway between the bedroom and bath is a favorite- 4 huge mirrored inside and out medicine cabinets were hung 2 over 2 replacing where a picture edge help pictures. Her original high hung wrap around bookshelf stayed. It is incredible and unfortunately pictures do not do them justice. My client loves makeup and potions and this area is now like browsing a beautifully stocked beauty store.
