First the entire house was given multiple coats of frsh white paint. The double doors to the back were removed and a gas fireplace was installed
It was given a  clean mode to play off the older look of the house. A black marble shelf was added to the wall. French doors with transoms for added light were installed on either side of the fireplace. The coffee table was an old old that was given chunky wood legs. Furniture is a mix of new, antique and vintage pieces. A custom made washable shabby chic slip cover was made for the newer sofa that had covers that could not come off. I deconstructed the original lamp shade to the ceiling fixture for a shabby look. A collection of vintage baskets were placed on the shelf above the windows.

A loved  J.S. Sargent painting was printed on framed canvas almost full size and given a wall of its own. Sheer roman curtains let the light in. A new light fixture was installed. Vintage looking throw pillows add pops of color.

Behind the sofa 2 club chairs with an ottoman between them make having a cup of tea by the window a cozy affair. A nook on the opposite wall sits another reading area. A fabulous 1930's french garage sign loon the fireplace wall.

A close up of the Sargent painting which leads to the front door- which in a country house is never used-only the kitchen door. The original green marble looking tiles were left and a repro chair with a  mirror and storage for winter hats and gloves was bought. Much used boots line up in the hall.
A mix of straw hats were hung on the wall and an inexpensive crystal light fixture was bought at Home Depot adds charm.

Xeroxs of old wallpaper were added to the stairs with home made glue of flour and water. I then added a sligh white wash to age them.
It gives a plain looking stair case a wonderful sense of color and whimsy.

A beloved collection of vintage dog prints and items were hung on the wall going up the stairs. When shown together it's like an art gallery.

Everything was taken off the walls then given a few coats of white paint. All of the original cabinets were reused. A large family table was added with
mixed style chairs. A window bench that lifts up for storage  was built. It also has 2 cubbies for the pups to stay with the family put not under foot.
A breakfast bar with a marble top and wainscoting on the wall behind was built  as were the glass door cabinets above that go to the ceiling.
Molding added to the fronts of the doors change the plain look.  A large buffet bought for $50 was painted white adds additional storage and
country charm. Ceiling fans with lights and one over the window seat were added.

A set of smaller cabinets were built on top of the other cabinets to go to the ceiling for a more finished look. . A new frig was bought and moved moved across the room.
Vintage grain sacks fill the window seats. And to complete the country look the doors under the sink were removed and french hand towels were hung.

There was an island along the back wall that was removed. There was no access to the back yard so one was added for convenience.
A new stove and built in microwave were bought. An antique display case that had been stored away now shows of vintage china.

In the dining room carpeting was picked up to reveal original wood floors. More pieces bought for 50 dollars each and chairs already owned were all
painted white. The original wallpaper was left but washed with a watered down white paint to soften the bright colors and give an aged look.
The ceiling fixture is original.

BEDROOMS

The master bedroom was the only one with hardwood floors, so painting white changed it immediately. Two long windows were installed so cross  ventilation was increased and a view to the back patio was now visible. A 1920's hand hooked rug lays the ground work for a country vintage look. A mix of  old and new furniture finish the look.. Bed linens in whites and pale florals set the tone. Because the bed is in a recess, swing out lamps were added on both sides for easy reading at night. A floral and stripe ottoman from Home Goods is another pretty addition and give the pups a way up to the bed.

One of the small bedrooms upstairs. All the upstairs room in the house had different typres of wall to wall carpet and floor coverings and different wall colors. New hard wood floors were installed throughout the second floor and all painted a fresh white. Linoleum was pulled up in this room.  A high antique brass bed was bought and a small floral covered stool was put beside it to make it easier to get into bed. A vintage looking bedskirt and fresh white linens complete the country look. A table from the garage was rescued and antique hats were hung on the walls. A window seat was added for extra storage and sitting. A small crystal candle holder was hung in the window. And an old dress and chair finish the room.

In this large third bedroom a wall of windows was added to add an incredible amount of light and a beautiful view of the back patio. Three antique wrought iron beds had been stored away and were brought up to create a vintage "dorm room" look. A ticking covered settee, antique stool, portrait and matching linens complete the look.

Once everything everything was removed an old settee was covered with lace table  cabinet clothes to cover the old fabric, an antique cabinet holds old dolls, and antique hats sit on top. Modern artist Naguchi knock-off ceiling lamp breaks tradition. Ornately framed art and empty frames rest casually against the wall.In honor of the old bedroom room names "blue room", "green room" and "pink room" identifiy the all newly white rooms.

The opposite side of the hallway has the "library"area. A window seat with storage was built in under the window and an old kitchen bench and foot stool hold stacks of books.
